How does one do a “first post??” Honestly, I have had this blog idea for many years. I have written many posts in my mind during that time. But now that I’m starting, it’s hard to know how to begin. It has to give some idea of why I wanted to start this blog to begin with. And why maybe I think it matters.
When people ask me why I’m starting this blog, I tell them:
I want to help us all switch out the telephoto lens that we are constantly looking through. A wide-angle lens helps us take a deep breath and enjoy a bigger view of what’s in front of us.
What I really want to tell them:
If we can peek out of a different lens periodically, we just might see a view that takes our breath away.
We live in a day where our picture can get distorted with noise, and we can get affected by comparison, competition, disappointment, and disillusionment. Sometimes it is helpful to step back, stop staring at the thing in front of us, and get a fresh perspective. Through stories, reflection and humor, I hope to create one way to do that. We all have days we could use a peek from a different angle…and maybe a good laugh. It helps us better enjoy the moment we are in and helps us encourage others to enjoy theirs as well.
A little bit about me:
- I am married to Dave, the incredible husband who has stood with me through the calm and the crazy for almost 30 years now.
- We have five children, with the last just about ready to leave teenage years behind. As the kids get older, lives get bigger. And although I am not in the “child training” stage, parenting in the true sense never ever stops. I am close enough to remember but distanced enough to have perspective. I did some things right, many things wrong, and discovered so much grace along the way.
- We recently gained another daughter when our son, Tyson, married Elisa. I am learning the process of letting go that I might receive even more. She is beautiful and we are so grateful we get to have her in our family.
- My goal in life is to enjoy it to the fullest and leave nothing behind. And to offer encouragement, hope, a smile and, most definitely, grace to all I get to meet along the way.
This is a place to switch out that telephoto lens and see the beauty of a bigger picture. I hope you will enjoy the stories that show up here. But more than that, I hope you will be encouraged and strengthened. More secure and confident. Because it’s not about perfect. It’s about perspective.

I loved running into you at Costco today. I so crave that life breath that comes when I get to talk with someone from our spiritual family. It’s definitely sweet to be able to exchange how we are each doing in this weird, almost ethereal, strange, constant changing time we are in right now. I just want to grab and hold on and not let go when I run into one of our CCK family that I never see anymore. We pray often, almost daily, for all of our church family, we love and miss everyone! Love you Kathy, please keep writing, you are so gifted and I will be a follower!
